the relationship between altitude and the boiling point is linear.AT an altitude of 8300ft 8300 ft , the liquid
mojhsa [17]

Complete Question

The  relationship  between  altitude  and  the  boiling  point  is  linear. At  an  altitude  of   8300ft, the  liquid  boils  at   194.23 °  F

At  an  altitude  of   4200 ft ,  the  liquid  boils  at   202.02° F.

Write  an  equation  giving  the  boiling  point   b  of  the  liquid,  in  terms  of  altitude  a  in   feet . feet . What  is  the  boiling  point  of  the  liquid  at   2600ft

Answer:

The equation is  y  =  -0.001943x + 210.3569

At  2600ft  the temperature is  y  =  205.3051 \  °F

Step-by-step explanation:

From the question we are told that

    The temperature at 8300ft is 194.23 °  F

    The  temperature at 4200 ft is 202.02° F

Generally the slope for this relationship is mathematically represented as

      m  =  \frac{ 202.2 - 194.23}{ 4200 - 8300}

=>     m  = 0.001943  ^o  F / ft

Generally the according to the point slope formula is

      y - y_1  =  m(x -x_1 )

=>   y - 194.23 =  -0.001943 (x - 8300 )

=>  y - 194.23 =  -0.001943x + 16.1269

=>  y  =  -0.001943x + 210.3569

Now we are given from the question that   x =  2600 ft

Then

         y  =  -0.001943(2600) + 210.3569

=>      y  =  205.3051 \  °F

Subtract the following fractions.
yanalaym [24]

Answer:

22. 3/8

23. 3/5

24. 0

Step-by-step explanation:

turn the 1 into a fraction for each of the problems.

for 22. it would be 8/8 because also trying to make the denominators the same.

8/8 - 5/8 = 3/8

try 23 and 24 now!

P(k)=a^k=2 3 4 find value of a that makes this is a valid probability distribution
Vesna [10]
Sounds like you're asked to find a such that

\displaystyle\sum_{k=2}^4\mathbb P(k)=\mathbb P(2)+\mathbb P(3)+\mathbb P(4)=1

In other words, find a that satisfies

a^2+a^3+a^4=1

We can factorize this as

a^4+a^3+a^2-1=a^3(a+1)+(a-1)(a+1)=(a+1)(a^3+a-1)=0

In order that \mathbb P(k) describes a probability distribution, require that \mathbb P(k)\ge0 for all k, which means we can ignore the possibility of a=-1.

Let a=y+\dfrac xy.

a^3+a-1=\left(y+\dfrac xy\right)^3+\left(y+\dfrac xy\right)-1=0
\left(y^3+3xy+\dfrac{3x^2}y+\dfrac{x^3}{y^3}\right)+\left(y+\dfrac xy\right)-1=0

Multiply both sides by y^3.

y^6+3xy^4+3x^2y^2+x^3+y^4+xy^2-y^3=0

We want to find x\neq0 that removes the quartic and quadratic terms from the equation, i.e.

\begin{cases}3x+1=0\\3x^2+x=0\end{cases}\implies x=-\dfrac13

so the cubic above transforms to

y^6-y^3-\dfrac1{27}=0

Substitute y^3=z and we get

z^2-z-\dfrac1{27}=0\implies z=\dfrac{9+\sqrt{93}}{18}
\implies y=\sqrt[3]{\dfrac{9+\sqrt{93}}{18}}
\implies a=\sqrt[3]{\dfrac{9+\sqrt{93}}{18}}-\dfrac13\sqrt[3]{\dfrac{18}{9+\sqrt{93}}}
