With the passage of time this kind of ship would give way to some of the most famous ships of all time, the river wheel steamers, such as those that circulated in the Mississippi and the Missouri. In the 19th century, large wheel steamers were transported piece by piece on the shoulders of porters from the coast to the navigable zone of the Congo River to save the fearsome falls of Livingstone.
