How did the totalitarianism that arose after world war 1 differ from earlier forms of authoritarianism

History

Both authoritarianism and totalitarianism discouraged individual freedom of thought and action.

But in the earlier forms of authoritarianism, the state (a dictator or small group of political elite) monopolized political power, and as long as that was not challenged it provided society a certain level of liberty.

In contrast, the totalitarianism aroused after WWI attempted to control all aspects of social life, including the economy, education, art, science, private life, and morals.

Why didn't the US become isolationist after WW2 as it had done after WW1?
Alborosie

The threat embodied by the Soviet Union under Joseph Stalin dampened any comeback of isolationism.

The ideological goals of the fascist powers in Europe during World War II and the growing aggression of Germany led many Americans to fear for the security of their nation, and thus call for an end to the US policy of isolationism.
