17 & 12.

It takes more time to add each number separately until you find it, so many look to using x & y to help.

Remember:

Sum = 29

x + y = 29

Difference = 5

x - y = 5

Let's divide by 2 for each equation, to find the answer.

29 + 5 / 2 = 17

29 - 5 / 2 = 12
