Why was Jefferson so frightened about the Missouri compromise

He was so frightened because it balanced the power between the free and the slave states. But then Henry clay makes a compromise that give the free states the Maine so they are equaled again. :)

Thomas Jefferson thought highly of George Washington. He knew how important Washington was to the beginning of the New Nation and it's New Government. Evenas they began to split on policy he banded with his rival, (Alexander Hamilton),to persuade Washington to stay on for a second term. When Washington mentioned than the head of a party." "North and South, " Jefferson urged, "will hangtogether if they have you to hang on." He told Washington.  Though Jefferson resigned as Secretary of State in 1793 and he and Washington grew apart, hisspect and reverence of Washington did not cease. <span>
