The Pros and Cons of labeling young children
as having a particular disability
zzz [600]

Hello!

Answer:

There are both advantages and disadvantages to being labeled as a child with special needs.

Advantages:

Individualized Education Program

An obvious pro of labeling a child who has special needs in the classroom is that teachers can use this information to help the child learn using their limitations as a guide.

Extra Learning Support

By labeling a child, they will receive extra services that they may not have been able to receive otherwise. For example, the child may be able to receive instruction in a learning support room at a pace that works for them.

Targeted Instruction

Kivi says that by labeling the child as «learning disabled» these students are able to get help in order to remediate their specific problem.

Disadvantages:

Low Self-Esteem for the Student

There are many laws in place that protect the rights of students with disabilities including access to services and helping to ensure these students are not discriminated against. These students may feel that they cannot do well in school or are not smart.

Lower Expectations from Parents & Teachers

Basically, if the teachers and parents don’t believe in the child, then the child won’t believe in himself either. «Lower expectations sets up the student for failure,» Newsome says.

Peer Issues

Fellow students can be mean and make fun of the student with special needs because they are different. Parents are considered to be full and equal members of the IEP team, along with school personnel. Because parents have inside knowledge of their child’s strengths and needs, they are crucial members of the team. «Parents have the right to be involved in meetings that discuss the identification, evaluation, IEP development and educational placement of their children,» says Newsome.

Which form does a verb take to ask a question?
subjunctive indicative imperative passive
mr_godi [17]
The form that a verb takes to ask a question is indicative. You use just the regular forms of a verb to ask the question, as in this example: What do you need? Subjunctive mood is used when talking about possibilities, or wishes, as in "I wish you would stop doing that," where "you would stop" is subjunctive. Imperative is the form you use to give orders, such as in" Close the door!" Passive form, as opposed to active, is found in this example: A book is being read by me - as opposed to - I am reading a book - which is active.

Please help me choose

Which three excerpts would best be characterized as expository texts?
Naddika [18.5K]

Expository text gets to the point rather quickly. It is intended as education rather than just narrative text. An example of narrative text is the Excerpt by Charles Dickens which is meant to draw a picture of what this woman was like.

So the last one is out.

The first one talks about volcanoes and how they are classified. That's one of your answers if you are trying for brevety and education.

I think the second one would also be a choice. It is trying to show you the nature of anxiety and what causes it. You learn a lot about symptoms from reading it. It's quick and to the point. Expository? Yes.

I don't think four is exactly expository, but I might be wrong. It sounds too argumentative to be completely expository. It wouldn't be my first choice even though I have read Twain a great deal, beginning in my teens. He always has something pointedly funny to say about the human condition. So it's hard for me not to include him in anything. It's not exactly narrative either. The tough ones are three and four.

Three tries to tell you what it would be like to live in another country. I think it likely is the choice you are looking for.
