Tyler just lit a new candle and then let it burn all the way down to nothing. The initial length of the candle was 15 inches and

the candle burned at a rate of 1.25 inches per hour. Write an equation for L,L, in terms of t,t, representing the length of the candle remaining unburned, in inches, tt hours after the candle was lit.

Answer:

15 in - (1.25 in/hr)t

Step-by-step explanation:

L(t) is a function of time, t:  L(t) = 15 in - (1.25 in/hr)t

Note that when the candle has burned down to nothing, L(t) = 0. How long does that take? Set 15 in - (1.25 in/hr)t equal to zero and solve for t:

(1.25 in/hr)t = 15 in, or

         15 in

t = ---------------- = 12 hrs

     1.25 in/hr

What should the next number be? 100 96 104 88 120 56
riadik2000 [5.3K]

100 ---> 96 is -4

96 ---> 104 is +8

104 ---> 88 is -16

88 ---> 120 is +32

120 ---> 56 is -64

So first we go down by 4, then up by 8, then down 16, then up 32, then finally down 64.

The pattern of numbers is: -4, +8, -16, +32, -64

Notice it's the powers of 2:

2^2 = 4

2^3 = 8

2^4 = 16

2^5 = 32

2^6 = 64

each term doubles. Also each term alternates in sign. One is positive, then the next is negative and so on.

The last difference is -64, which doubles to -128. Change the sign to positive to get +128

Add 128 to the last term of 56 to get

128+56 = 184

Therefore, the final answer is 184

Polygon R and polygon S are similar. The perimeter of polygon R is 136 cm, and the perimeter of polygon S is 64 cm. If one side
e-lub [12.9K]

Answer

Option A) 17cm

Explanation

Polygon R and polygon S are similar. This means the polygon R and S have equal number of sides.

Step 1 : Find the number of sides of polygon S

The perimeter of polygon S is 64 cm. If one side of polygon S is 8 cm

Therefore, Number of sides of polygon S = 64/8 = 8 sides

and number of sides of polygon R = 8 side

Step 2 : Find the number of sides of polygon R

The perimeter of polygon R is 136 cm,

Number of sides of polygon R = 136/8 = 17 cm

Therefore side length of polygon R = 17 cm
