They use techniques such as cross hatching and hatching to show shading and light, vibrant colours, halftones, highlights, and reflected light. Shading and texture are the main ways comics have a strong sense of light. Often softer, less vibrant colours will be used to show light as well. Background is important too; a dark background with little colour will make the entire panel seem dimly lit.
