During the 1950s, drugs were discovered that could reduce the symptoms of schizophrenia by lowering levels of the neurotransmitter <span>dopamine. These types of drugs are known as </span>phenothiazines. There are two types of neuroleptic drugs that are used for
the treatment of <span>schizophrenia
symptoms which acts by changing levels of neurotransmitters in the brain, that
are typical neuroleptics and atypical neuroleptics.</span>
