The court ruled to remove protection from dangerous speeches.  Charles Schenck was an anti-war activist who spoke out against the war and was arrested for espionage.  It is believe that he was threatening the war effort with his speeches and was charged as a result.

The emancipation proclamation declared that all people are equals regardless of race. The 3/5ths compromise dealt with the number of representatives in the house of representatives when the notion of them depending on the number of people in the state was put into motion. The magna carta inspired them because it limited the power of the ruling force.</span>

Polk was a massive supporter for Manifest Destiny, so an encouragement for expansion was something he definitely wanted. Not to mention the conflict over Texas with Mexico. Even more so, the conquest of California was a dream for many Americans, something that was theirs to be taken and that would lead the U.S to expand into the Pacific, and Polk was a big supporter.
