A research ship lowers a probe into the ocean to explore an underwater trench. The probe starts on a crane 16 feet above the sur

face and is lowered at a rate of 9.2 feet per minute. Write an expression for the depth of the probe after m minutes. What is the depth of the probe after 30 minutes?

9.2 is rate depth increases per minute.  This is same as slope (change in depth over change in time).

The surface of ocean is equal to depth of 0. Initial depth = -16 because it starts 16 ft ABOVE ocean. This is also when m = 0, similar to the "y-intercept"

Now we can write our function:
D = 9.2m -16

The table shows the first five terms for two number sequences with different rules. Select the coordinate plane that has the ord
Nookie1986 [14]

The linear function of the table of values is y = -1.5x + 25

<h3>How to plot the ordered pairs?</h3>

The table of values is given as:

<u>Sequence One       Sequence Two       Ordered Pair         </u>

6                                         16                           (6, 16)

8                                         13                           (8, 13)

10                                        10                           (10, 10)

12                                         7                            (12, 7)

14                                         4                            (14, 4)

From the above table of values, we can see that:

  • As x constantly increases by 2 i.e. +1
  • y constantly decreases by 3 i.e. -3

This means that the table represents a linear function, and the slope of the function is

m = -3/+2

This gives

m = -1.5

A linear function is represented as:

y = mx + c

This gives

y = -1.5x + c

Using the table of values, we have

16 = -1.5 * 6 + c

Evaluate the product

16 = -9 + c

Add 9 to both sides

c = 25

Substitute c = 25 in y = -1.5x + c

y = -1.5x + 25

Hence, the linear function of the table of values is y = -1.5x + 25

See attachment for the graph of the table
