What characteristics of seventeenth-century Metaphysical poetry sparked the enthusiasm of modernist poets and critics?
11111nata11111 [884]
B. It's union of thought and passion. Modernists didn't really like that the metaphysical poets were trying to use logic to prove love, they thought that emotions couldn't be explained by logical and reason, that they were irrational etc.

Read this sentence from "Why I Write" by George Orwell.
svetlana [45]

Answer:

D). It develops a dramatic tone.

Explanation:

The tone is elucidated as the author's approach or attitude towards a particular subject matter which is reflected through the choice of words or language adopted by the author. It offers a framework through which the audience can perceive the text.

In the given sentence from 'Why I write?', the phrase 'efface one's own personality' develops a dramatic tone as Orwell offers a reasonable claim that 'to create a considerable written work, one needs to be objective and factual' and eliminate his/her own opinions or thoughts while writing. His claim could be substantiated logically as the author must be impersonal as the inclusion of his/her opinion or personality may offer a biased representation. Thus, option D is the correct answer.

In “I, too,” why does the speaker say “they” will be ashamed
stealth61 [152]

Answer:

The speaker says they will be ashamed because they will see how beautiful he is.

Explanation:

This poem is in response to Whitman's "I Hear America Singing". In the poem Hughes, contrasts Whitman's idea that America is a place where everyone has value. However, Hughes does not see the same America as Whitman. People of his race are constantly tossed aside and banished to back rooms. They are not valued or respected. He tells the audience that "they" meaning the white people will be ashamed when they learn all that the African Americans have to offer the world.
