Two ways that looting/ unrest exposed social injustices in South Africa are:
- showed that people were desperate for a better life
- showed that people lacked a lot of basic goods
The looting in South Africa that started July 2021 was as a result of a former President, Jacob Zuma, being arrested.
It showed that there was social injustice amongst the disadvantaged communities that mostly participated in the looting by:
- Showing that people lacked basic goods - the things that people looted from shops and malls were mostly items that would make their lives better. In stealing them therefore, they were showing that the social injustices they went through prevented them from buying these things on their own.
- Showing that people were desperate for better - a lot of people died during the looting as they would face vigilantes, other looters and the law yet this did not stop people from looting. It shows that people were so desperate for those goods that they could put their lives on the line to get them.
The looting / unrest in South Africa can therefore be conclusively said to be as a result of underlying social injustices imposed on their disadvantaged communities.

Under what conditions is postdecisional dissonance reduction the greatest? This can be achieved when a person convinces themselves that the choice they made cannot be changed
