Why don't the people of the parish ask Mr. Hooper why he is wearing the veil? What do the members of the delegation sent to inqu

ire mean when they report back to their constituents that the "matter [is] too weighty to be handled, except by a council of the churches, if, indeed, it might not require a general synod"?

This question is about the book "The Minister’s Black Veil"

Answer and Explanation:

1. There are several reasons for this, although none is explicit in the book, we can make several interpretations about why people do not ask about Mr. Hooper's black vein. First, the population does not ask about it, because Hooper does not open up to it and does not answer when someone has the courage to ask. A second reason is that the population understands that the veil has a strong connection with sin and when asking Hooper about the veil they would allow their own sins to be pointed out and that would discourage them.

2. They mean that the use of Hooper's black vein was something very unusual and dark that caused discomfort, but that it was having positive results as it attracted believers to the church and made them convert. This made the veil something very contradictory and that would need a lot of attention to be interpreted, discussed and resolved.

What does an oral performance of poetry consist of?
oksano4ka [1.4K]

Oral tradition, or oral lore, is a form of human communication where in knowledge, art, ideas and cultural material is received, preserved and transmitted orally from one generation to another. The transmission is through speech or song and may include folktales, ballads, chants, prose or verses. In this way, it is possible for a society to transmit oral history, oral literature, oral law and other knowledge across generations without a writing system, or in parallel to a writing system. Indian religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism, for example, have used an oral tradition, in parallel to a writing system, to transmit their canonical scriptures, secular knowledge such as Sushruta Samhita, hymns and mythologies from one generation to the next.

Oral tradition is information, memories and knowledge held in common by a group of people, over many generations, and it is not same as testimony or oral history. In a general sense, "oral tradition" refers to the recall and transmission of a specific, preserved textual and cultural knowledge through vocal utterance. As an academic discipline, it refers both to a set of objects of study and a method by which they are studied.

The study of oral tradition is distinct from the academic discipline of oral history, which is the recording of personal memories and histories of those who experienced historical eras or events.Oral tradition is also distinct from the study of orality defined as thought and its verbal expression in societies where the technologies of literacy (especially writing and print) are unfamiliar to most of the population.A folklore is a type of oral tradition, but knowledge other than folklore has been orally transmitted and thus preserved in human history.

Do you think the place where you grow up has an influence on the person you become?
malfutka [58]

Answer: It is a two sided situation. If you don't want the place where you grow up to have influence in some specific areas of your life, it is possible. But some of the experiences you have gotten or have encountered in the place you grow up would always stick but it would help you make better life decisions in the future.

Explanation: Some of the event that has happened where you grow up would always be remembered but the mind is a powerful tool, if you decide not to be influenced by your environment it would so.

What does the apartment they are leaving mean to Shay and her family?
Nitella [24]

The apartment means the life they built and all the memories they have.

We can arrive at this answer because:

  • Shay and her family are leaving the house they've lived in all their lives as they move out of town.
  • This change will be accomplished because Shay needs to follow her dreams and it's not possible to do that in the city where they've always lived.

While it's nice that Shay can fulfill her dreams, it's sad to have to leave a home with so many memories and where Shay and his family have built their entire lives.

They have a very strong emotional attachment to the house, but it is necessary to say goodbye to it.
