give two examples that show how using parentheses can change the order in wich operations are performed in an expression
timurjin [86]
This is because of the order of operations:
Parentheses
Exponent
Divide
Multiply
Add
Subtract

Note that parentheses are the first, so it will affect everything after it.

Examples:
2(5+4)= 2x9= 18
(2x5)+4= 10+4= 14

5/(2+3)= 5/5= 1
(5/2)+3= 2.5+3= 5.5

Jeni works from 8:00 - 3:15 three days in a row, only taking a half-hour unpaid lunch break each day. If she is paid $15 per hou
Umnica [9.8K]

Answer:

$101.25

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Jeni works from 8:00 - 3:15 three days

Taking a half-hour unpaid lunch break each day.

she is paid $15 per hour.

Question asked:

what will be her total earnings before tax ?

Solution:

Numbers of hours from 8:00 to 12 = 4 hours

Numbers of hours from 12:00 to 3:00 = 3 hours

Numbers of hours from 3:00 to 3:15 = 15 min =  \frac{15}{60}  (converting min into hrs)

Total numbers of hours = 4 + 3 + \frac{15}{60}

                                        = 7 + \frac{15}{60} = 7 + 0.25

                                        =  7.25 hours

Unpaid lunch break = half hours =  0.50 hours

Total number of hours for which she is paid = 7.25 - 0.50

                                                                         = 6.75 hours

By applying unitary method :

In 1 hour she is paid = $15

In 6.75 hours she is paid  = 15 \times 6.75 =  $101.25

Therefore, her total earnings before tax = $101.25

A theatre sells 1986 tickets. 234 more adult tickets are sold than child tickets, and 186 more child tickets are sold than stude
Juliette [100K]

Answer:

  646 child tickets are sold

Step-by-step explanation:

Let c represent the number of child tickets sold. Then (c-186) is the number of student tickets sold, and (c+234) is the number of adult tickets sold. The total number sold is ...

  (c -186) + c + (c+234) = 1986

  3c +48 = 1986 . . . simplify

  c + 16 = 662 . . . . divide by 3

  c = 646 . . . . . . . . . subtract 16

The number of child tickets sold is 646.

Round to the nearest tenth wa hit is the perimeter of the triangle
klio [65]

Answer:

D. 11.8 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

This triangle is a 30°-60°-90° triangle. There is a shortcut to find the lengths of the sides of a 30°-60°-90° triangle. The longest side is the hypotenuse. The longest side is double the shortest side or, the shortest side is half the longest side. Here the longest side is 5, so the short leg (shortest side) is 2.5

The other shortcut is that the longer leg is the

short leg×sqroot3

Here, the short leg is 2.5, so the long leg is 2.5×sqroot3

Perimeter is all the sides added together.

5 + 2.5+ 2.5×sqrt3

Do the times first.

5 + 2.5 + 4.3

= 11.8
