The antagonist in the giver is Jonas. He is fun, outgoing and he likes to play with his friends. He values his family and friends and the rules inside his community. The giver motivates him. This influences events in the novel by making it seem like everything is perfect in his world until the giver gives him memories; then his entire outlook eventually changes.
