Chicken-pox is a common childhood virus. Typically, during the first day of exposure, the victim gets sniffles and begins runnin

g a fever. By the second day, small sores have broken out all over the body. By the third day, the person has an obvious case of the chicken-pox. However, by about the 7th day, the chicken pox is gone, but the virus remains hidden in the DNA of the person for the rest of their life.

Answer:

Correct. The only wrong statement for this exercise is:

Antibiotics could cure chicken pox as it is a virus.

Explanation:

Viruses can't be controlled with antibiotics. Because viruses are not weakened or destroyed with them, the only mechanism that works against them is antibodies and learned immunity. Because they stick to the DNA or ARN o the cells and make them mutate. So, when the body has learned how to be resistant to those mutations the virus is no longer dangerous for the body. Furthermore, the only effect antibiotics could have is against bacterial infections that occur thanks to the exhaustion and weakness of the immune system due to the virus fight.

A DNA fragment with the sticky end sequence TGGCA will bind with another DNA fragment with the sticky end sequence _____
klio [65]

Answer:

A DNA fragment with sticky end sequence TGGCA will bind with another DNA fragment with sticky end sequence ACCGT.

Explanation:

When a DNA strand is separated by the restriction endonuclease, it forms two separate single strands. These strands or cuts are known as sticky ends as they are detached from the complementary pairs.

These cuts of DNA are without complementary pairs and when they find suitable base pair, they get attached to it. These sticky ends are allowed to fix with the complementary base pairs during PCR/ polymerase chain reaction.

They are called sticky ends as they are ready to stick with the complementary base pairs of nucleotides.
