In 1478, Ferdinand and Isabella established the Tribunal of the Holy Office of the Inquisition, also known as the Spanish Inquisition, to ensure the Catholic orthodoxy in their kingdom.

In 1486, Cristobal Columbus proposes a voyage west to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain. Columbus exposed to them the details of his project in order to obtain their financial assistance.

In 1492, the Alhambra Decree or the Edict of Expulsion issued by Ferndinand and Isabella expelled all Jews from Spain who did not convert to Catholicism concluding the <em>Reconquista</em>. This marked the expulsion or conversion to Catholicism of the remaining moors and jews in Spain, now completely under Catholic rule.
