They were trying to decide on how many representatives each state should have. There was a conflict between the north and the south debating whether slaves should be counted as people. The south wanted to gain more representatives based on population by using the sleeves as people. Eventually the north and the south came to a resolution that every five slaves would count as one person.

Answer:

The primary purpose of the Constitutional Convention was to forge a political union, not a moral one. Many of the delegates at Philadelphia were hostile to the very notion of slavery. ... A number of delegates from the South concurred. On a moral level, slavery was virtually indefensible despite numerous.

The policy described in the passage most contributed to which of the following Cold War developments? A. The rise of McCarthyism
g100num [7]
Without giving us the passage you have in front of you, maybe you can figure it out on your own (or perhaps already did). Which of the themes is evident in the passage you're looking at?

The rise of McCarthyism: Senator Joseph McCarthy led a vigorous campaign to root out all persons that had any suspicion of being communist sympathizers.

The elimination of the House Un-American Activities Committee: That was part of the backlash against McCarthyism, seeing that McCarthy and others had gone to far in their anti-communism crusade.

Opposition to Republicans supporting the Korean War: Though Truman's actions to get involve the United States in the war in Korean were initially popular, that popularity began to dwindle once China entered into the conflict and it became apparent this was going to be a protracted and difficult struggle.

The Truman Doctrine was first stated by the president to Congress in 1947, saying: "It must be the policy of the United States to support free people who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures." Essentially, the Truman Doctrine pledged American effort elsewhere in the world to check the spread of communist and Soviet influence. The policy was first put into action in 1948 by providing economic support to Greece and Turkey to stave off communist movement in those countries.

I've seen this question before, asking to identify where the narrative takes place. It is World War II in Europe.

The references to "fighting the Germans when Poland had first been invaded" identify this narrative as happening during World War II in Europe. Other nations in Europe, notably Britain and France, had followed a policy of appeasement toward Adolph Hitler and Germany's efforts to add territory to its control. They allowed Germany to annex the Sudentland, and then did nothing when Germany took control of all of Czechoslovakia (in March, 1939). But when Germany invaded Poland in September, 1939, it was beyond clear that appeasing Hitler hadn't worked, and war was pursued. Germany's invasion of Poland was the beginning of World War II in Europe.
