The domestication of animals is best described as breeding wild animals over many generations to make them dependant on humans for survival. Later, the human could take advantage of the domestication of the animal.  

EXPLANATION:  

National Geographic describes the domestication of animals as adapting wild animals for human use. It is a process to tame wild animals in nature. Domestic species of animals are raised for clothing, work, food, medicine, and many other purposes.  

It was 10.000 years ago when domestication of animals firstly done by the Mesopotamia people. They tame animals in nature for milk, meat, and hides or skin. The first animal which is domesticated by Mesopotamia people is a goat. Then it is followed by sheep. People in Southeast Asia also did domestication of animals. They tamed chickens over 10.000 years ago.  

Based on the record, individuals have raised domesticated animals for certain traits. Domestic animals are preferred because they can reproduce in captivity. Domestication is also done to calm their temperament. Animals’ ability to survive in difficult climates and resist disease is also valuable.  

Nowadays, the domestication of animals is not only done to benefit animals for clothing, food, or medicine. Domestication of animals, such as dog, is done to tame this animal to be petted.
