In order to find out the answer you must use the equation( Mx4-5)

Let The age of Emerson be = x years

As James and Emerson are same age then, James age is also = x

Let Michael age be = y years

As Emerson is 5 less than four times Michael’s age, equation becomes

x=4y-5   ...... (1)

James is fourteen years younger than five times the age of Michael.

x=5y-14 ...... (2)

Now equaling both

4y-5=5y-14

y=9

Hence, Michael's age is 9 years.

As, x=4y-5 and x=5y-14 , solving them we get,

x=31

Hence, Emerson and James are 31 years old.

Find the sum of the A.P:8,-3,-2,-7,-12....up to n terms
Ira Lisetskai [31]

Answer:

\frac{21n}{2} -\frac{5n^{2} }{2}

Step-by-step explanation:

  • given ap series : 8,3,-2,-7,-12....up to n terms

[the second term should be +3 or else it wont form AP series]

first term in the series: 8

common difference : 3-8 = -5

total terms : n

  • the formula for sum of n terms in an ap = \frac{n}{2} [2a+(n-1)d]

a: first term

d: common difference

n : total terms

  • by substituting value in the above formula,
  • sum of the A.P: \frac{n}{2} [2(8)+(n-1)-5]

\frac{n}{2} [16+(n-1)(-5)]

\frac{n}{2} [16+(n-1)(-5)]

\frac{n}{2} [16+-5n+5]

\frac{n}{2} [21+-5n]

=\frac{21n}{2} -\frac{5n^{2} }{2}

Which ordered pair is the best estimate for the solution of the system of equations?
Rasek [7]

Answer:

<u>The ordered pair of the solution is (0.022, -0.55). None of the alternatives given we can consider as the best estimate because there isn't at least one positive value for x, when it's actually positive. Picking (0, -2) as the best estimate is also far from the best estimate.</u>

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's solve the system of equations:

y = −25x

−2y = 5x+1

***********************

Substituting y in the 2nd equation:

-2 (-25x) = 5x + 1

50x = 5x + 1

45x = 1

x = 1/45

x = 0.022

**********************

Solving for y in the 1st equation:

y = -25 (0.022)

y = - 0.55

<u>The ordered pair of the solution is (0.022, -0.55). None of the alternatives given we can consider as the best estimate because there isn't at least one positive value for x, when it's actually positive. Picking (0, -2) as the best estimate is also far from the best estimate.</u>
