Mirror neurons are a result of highly controversy because there is not actual prove of mirror neurons in humans. Scans show that there are ares of the brain that activates both during action execution and observation. And this areas are considered the human mirror system. So there are studies that try to prove there are actual mirror neuros, very few provide sufficient evidence.

Explanation:

Mirror neuros were discover on animals, by an experiment drawns in monkey brains. The researches talked about the functioning of the mirror neurons: they are responsable for understanding the action of others, and the other function is imitation, learning the actions of others. It has not been prove yet that this neurons act in humans.

Now a days the researches try to prove other functions to this neurons.
