  • Corporate colony - Jamestown Colony was founded and controlled by investors of an English joint-stock company.
  • Proprietary colony - King Charles II of England gave New York to the Duke of York as a reward for his loyalty.
  • Royal colony - New Hampshire colony was owned by the English monarch, who appointed a governor to run it.

1) Jamestown or Jamestown Fort, was the first permanent English settlement in the present territory of the United States. It was founded in 1607 on the banks of the James River on a peninsula (now Jamestown Island), in the current county of James City, Virginia.

2) Between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the maritime rivalry between Dutch and English came to an end with the victory of the latter in North America. The King of England Charles II donated to his brother, the Duke of York, this land was immediately renamed "New York" in honor of the Duke of York. In 1785, the Continental Congress was installed in New York, which since then served as provisional capital of the United States.

3) Colony of New Hampshire The territory was formally organized as an English royal colony on October 7, 1661, during the period of English colonization. The privileges were ceded on May 14, 1692 by William and Mary, the joint monarchs of England and Scotland, at the same time that the province of Massachusetts Bay was created.
