Write to explain how you can break apart 16*34 into four simpler multiplication problems
____ [38]
16 is 10 +6, and 34 is 30+4
10*30=300
10*4=40
6*30=180
4*6=24
add them up: 300+40+180+24=544

Using an array to break

There are nickels, dimes, quarters in a large piggy bank, for every 2 nickels there are 3 dimes, for every 2 dimes there are 5 q
Alex

There are 80 nickels and 120 dimes and 300 quarters in piggy bank

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

Given that,

For every 2 nickels there are 3 dimes ,

So, ratio of nickel to dime will be 2 : 3

Also for every 2 dimes there are 5 quarters

So, ratio of dime to quarters is 2 : 5

Let us first find the ratio of nickles to dimes to quarters

nickel : dime = 2 : 3

dime : quarters = 2 : 5

\frac{nickel}{dime} = \frac{2}{3}

nickel = \frac{2}{3} dime

\frac{dime}{quarter} = \frac{2}{5}

quarter = \frac{5}{2}dime

So,

nickel : dime : quarter = \frac{2}{3}dime : dime : \frac{5}{2}dime\\\\nickel : dime : quarter = \frac{2}{3} : 1 : \frac{5}{2}\\\\nickel : dime : quarter = 4 : 6 : 15

Thus nickel : dime : quarters = 4 : 6 : 15

Now, let the number of nickel be 4x

Let the number of dimes be 6x

Let the number of quarters be 15x

From given question,

There are 500 coins in all.

number of nickel + number of dimes + number of quarters = 500

4x + 6x + 15x = 500

25x = 500

x = 20

Thus,

number of nickel = 4x = 4(20) = 80

number of dimes = 6x  = 6(20) = 120

number of quarters = 15x = 15(20) = 300

Thus there are 80 nickels and 120 dimes and 300 quarters in piggy bank

Just number 7 would be fine but if you could also number 8 would help a lot
BlackZzzverrR [31]

Answer:

7. r = -5

8. x = -1

General Formulas and Concepts:

<u>Pre-Algebra</u>

Order of Operations: BPEMDAS

  1. Brackets
  2. Parenthesis
  3. Exponents
  4. Multiplication
  5. Division
  6. Addition
  7. Subtraction
  • Left to Right

Equality Properties

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Step 1: Define</u>

r + 2 - 8r = -3 - 8r

<u>Step 2: Solve for </u><em><u>r</u></em>

  1. Combine like terms:                    -7r + 2 = -3 - 8r
  2. Add 8r to both sides:                   r + 2 = -3
  3. Subtract 2 on both sides:            r = -5

<u>Step 3: Check</u>

<em>Plug in r into the original equation to verify it's a solution.</em>

  1. Substitute in <em>r</em>:                    -5 + 2 - 8(-5) = -3 - 8(-5)
  2. Multiply:                              -5 + 2 + 40 = -3 + 40
  3. Add:                                    -3 + 40 = -3 + 40
  4. Add:                                    37 = 37

Here we see that 37 does indeed equal 37.

∴ r = -5 is a solution of the equation.

<u>Step 4: Define equation</u>

-4x = x + 5

<u>Step 5: Solve for </u><em><u>x</u></em>

  1. Subtract <em>x</em> on both sides:                    -5x = 5
  2. Divide -5 on both sides:                      x = -1

<u>Step 6: Check</u>

<em>Plug in x into the original equation to verify it's a solution.</em>

  1. Substitute in <em>x</em>:                    -4(-1) = -1 + 5
  2. Multiply:                               4 = -1 + 5
  3. Add:                                     4 = 4

Here we see that 4 does indeed equal 4.

∴ x = -1 is a solution of the equation.

Why the area and the perimeter are not both multiplied by the same factor.
lina2011 [118]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

It might be the length of one of the sides of a polygon (a figure with straight sides) or the radius of a circle. ... You can find the perimeter of a regular octagon (8-sided figure with equal sides) by multiplying the length of one of the sides by 8. The area of a figure is the measure of how large its surface is. I think btw if its wrong sorry :)
