Answer :

(a) The maximum efficiency of the engine is, 62.5 %

(b) The maximum work done is, 0.625 KJ.

(c) The heat discharge into the cold sink is, 0.375 KJ.

Explanation : Given,

Temperature of hot body T_h = 800 K

Temperature of cold body T_c = 300 K

(a) First we have to calculate the maximum efficiency of the engine.

Formula used for efficiency of the engine.

\eta =1-\frac{T_c}{T_h}

Now put all the given values in this formula, we get :

\eta =1-\frac{300K}{800K}

\eta =0.625\times 100=62.5\%

(b) Now we have to calculate the maximum work done.

Formula used :

\eta =\frac{Q_h-Q_c}{Q_h}=\frac{w}{Q_h}

where,

Q_h = heat supplied by hot source = 1 KJ

Q_c = heat supplied by hot source

w = work done = ?

Now put all the given values in this formula, we get :

\eta =\frac{w}{Q_h}

0.625=\frac{w}{1KJ}

w=0.625KJ

(c) Now we have to calculate the heat discharge into the cold sink.

Formula used :

w=Q_h-Q_c

Q_c=Q_h-w

Q_c=1-0.625

Q_c=0.375KJ

Therefore, (a) The maximum efficiency of the engine is, 62.5 %

(b) The maximum work done is, 0.625 KJ.

(c) The heat discharge into the cold sink is, 0.375 KJ.

How many moles of sucrose (C12H22O11) would be in 8.7 L of a 1.1 M solution of sucrose?
poizon [28]

Answer:

9.57 mol.

Explanation:

<em>Molarity is defined as the no. of moles of a solute per 1.0 L of the solution.</em>

<em />

<em>M = (no. of moles of solute)/(V of the solution (L)).</em>

<em></em>

∴ M = (no. of moles of sucrose)/(V of the solution (L)).

1.1 M = (no. of moles of sucrose)/(8.7 L).

<em>∴ no. of moles of sucrose = (1.1 M)(8.7 L) = 9.57 mol.</em>

How do Newton's laws of motion explain why it is important to keep the ice smooth on a hockey rink so that players
andriy [413]

Answer:

How do Newton's laws of motion explain why it is important to keep the ice smooth on a hockey rink so that players can pass a puck as quickly as possible? Smooth ice reduces the unbalanced forces that would slow the hockey puck. A skydiver falls toward the ground at a constant velocity.

The sea water has 8.0x10^-1 cg of element strontium. Assuming that all strontium could be recovered, how many grams of strontium
PilotLPTM [1.2K]

984 grams of strontium will be recovered from 9.84x10^8 cubic meter of seawater.

Explanation:

From the question data given is :

volume of strontium in sea water= 9.84x10^8 cubic meter

(1 cubic metre = 1000000 ml)

so 9 .84x10^8 cubic meter

 \frac{9 .84x10^8}{1000000}      = 984 ml.

density of sea water = 1 gram/ml

from the formula mass of strontium can be calculated.

density = \frac{mass}{volume}

mass = density x volume

mass = 1 x 984

         = 984 grams of strontium will be recovered.

98400 centigram of strontium will be recovered.

Strontium is an alkaline earth metal and is highly reactive.
