During the three-week siege they caused great casualties, British troops surrendered more than more by the Continental Army and its French allies. This last major land battle of the American Revolutionary War led to peace talks with Britain and the signing of the 1783 Treaty of Paris.

Situation After the 6 years of war, both British and Continental troops were exhausted. British troops had little American coastal territory on enemy territory. Beyond the Atlantic Ocean, Britain also wages a world war between France and Spain.
