Martin Luther provided reasons (95 Theses) as to why the Catholic Church was corrupt. The peasants liked the 95 Theses because the Church was asking for indulgences, paying them money in order to be forgiven. Being truly forgiven has nothing to do with money. Peasants barely had any to begin with.
