His rebellion was a way to ensure that this happened as quickly as possible. Even though the rebellion itself was unsuccessful, it did have some impact on the myths held by the plantation owners that the enslaved population was happy with their lives and wanted to continue as they were. It also strengthened the anti-abolitionist sentiments that existed in the South of the country and encouraged the passage of certain laws that severely restricted the freedom and humanity of the enslaved population there.

In just two days, men under Turner's orders murdered some sixty-five whites without excluding women and children. Many of the victims had even kindly behaved towards the slaves. A white militia entered the Belmont plantation and ended the revolt.
