How am I supposed to solve this? I know how to do the equations but I don't know why there are only 2 places to put an answer fo

r X and Y when there are 2 equations. Both equations have an X and a Y so that means there are 4 X and Y answers.

Answer:

x=1; y= -4

Step-by-step explanation:

4x+3y= -8    [1]

-x+y= -5       [2]

So here I'm gonna carry on with the elimination method because that is easier to explain with:

In the equation you have to make either x or y of the same value. I'm gonna start with y.

To make y the same, everything in [2] has to be multiplied with 3

so it becomes

4x+3y= -8

-3x+ 3y= -15

Now to cancel out y we have to subtract the equations:

4x+3y= -8

- (-3x+3y= -15)   the brackets are just to indicate that the whole thing is being subtracted- remember to look at the signs

y is cancelled out

So now it will be:

7x = -8+15

7x=7

x=1

Now use the value of x to figure out y

4x+3y= -8

4(1)+ 3y= -8

3y= -8-4

y= -12/3

y= -4

Andre45 [30]
Answer: 4

Try just dividing 23/5 and you’d get 4 something. But since 5.97 is close to 6 you can also mentally divide 23/6 and get 3something (it’d be really close to 4)

Step-by-step explanation:

Lets ignore the -13 for now because it doesn't have anything to do with the question

Now simply just add 10+ 20 (i took out the negative because it doesn;t make sense)
