In many parts of the world, having an expensive and a big car and a house is regarded as a symbol of status in the society. There is a common perspective that those people are classified as 'high class people' or 'people with higher socioeconomic status' when they posses such property as an expensive car.
Because of this believe many people tend to have an expensive car though they cannot afford to pay the monthly payment easily. Driving an expensive car or buying an huge house becomes very important and is a status symbol.
