When you write an argument you must to explain with a logical sequence and you need to built pauses to try to give  a clear message that  you want to communicate.

To reach the goals when you write an essay or an argument there are the transitional words and the expression to use in writing for examples:

To show similarity the words that you could  use the words: also, in the same way, likewise and To show exception or contrast you could  use the words: But, however, in spite of, on the other hand, on the contrary.

In resume, these expressions are required when you write an argument.
