Why would the church want Michelangelo's painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel?

Pope Sixtus IV had other famous painter come to the chapel and paint the walls and other features to make it look better. When Julius became pope he insisted the michelangelo to paint the ceilings. Before he painted the ceiling its was just blue with stars and there was no fun factor.
