The main competing arguments in the Webster-Hayne debate----which took place between Senator Daniel Webster of Massachusetts and Senator Robert Y. Hayne of South Carolina--were over protective tariffs in the United States, with one side arguing that states had a right to nullify laws they deemed unconstitutional, and the other argued that the Union needed to be protected at all costs.

How were farmers affected in the Dust Bowl?
ivanzaharov [21]

Answer:

B. They could not repay their loans or afford to buy basic necessities.

Explanation:

The Great Dust Bowl affected the Great Plains specifically, which most of the US farmers were located at (due to the large area of leveled plains). However, with over use of the land (which wore away the top soil), and the dry climate due to drought, the land slowly became dry, and the "dust" was able to be carried by the strong winds, hence the name "Dust Bowl". This spread the dust in large areas, and with the dry climates, made it hard for the farmers to farm, leading to their economic demise.

What bias did Benjamin Franklin display when he said, "Why should Pennsylvania,
lorasvet [3.4K]

Franklin was scared that they will change the existing colonial customs and values. He had his own dignity and a sense of nationalism for his country by being against the outsiders occupying the country. He hated Germans and their values.

Explanation:

  • They were referred to as aliens as they couldn't adopt the local values.
  • Immigrants were not very bright and hence Franklin was scared that they would influence the people of the colony with their less knowledgeable personalities.
  • The fact that he hated Germans led to the stand of dignity within. He was stubborn against Germans that they shouldn't Germanize the people of his nation by following Anglo.
  • One among the main reasons why Franklin never liked the idea of letting outsiders in the country was that he w did not like the foreigners endangering New England's whiteness, hence he did not want to permit immigrants to Pennsylvania. Like all the leaders who were there before him Franklin also had a sense of dignity for his own people and always wanted for them to grow and prosper.

Why was the Congo vulnerable to turmoil after independence?
Ugo [173]
For the same reason many others were. There were many people who believed that they should have the right to rule the country which led to a lot of infighting. This was common for countries that gain independence, especially in Africa where tribes still fight for control nowadays even though the age of colonization is over.
