1/2 = x / 50
cross multiply because this is a proportion
(2)(x) = (1)(50)
2x = 50
x = 50/2
x = 25 <==

and if u will notice, 1/2 and 25/50 are equivalent fractions...and that is what proportions are....nothing but equivalent fractions

Classify the system as independent, dependent, or inconsistent.
Anastasy [175]
1. 4x + 8y = 12....divide by 4
     x + 2y = 3
     2y = -x + 3
     y = -1/2x + 3/2...slope is -1/2, y int is 3/2

     x + 2y = -3
     2y = -x - 3
     y = -1/2x - 3/2...slope is -1/2 and y int is -3/2

when the slopes are the same, and the y int are different, then the lines are parallel and never intersect...so they have no solution and are inconsistent
=================
2. y = 2x - 1...slope is 2 and y int is -1
    y = -2x + 5 ...slope is -2 and y int is 5
when the slopes are different and the y int are different, then there is 1 solution making it independent
=================
3. 4x - 12y = 8...divide by 4
     x - 3y = 2
same as other equation meaning the equations are the same line...meaning they have infinite solutions making them dependent

The teacher asks Mel and Kate to use base 10 blocks to model the number that is ten times the value of 4 rods. Mel's modle uses
AveGali [126]
Kate's model is correct because 10 times the value of 4 rods, 10(4(10)), is 400. Mel's model represents 4(1)=4, which is incorrect. Kate's model represents 4*100=400, which is correct.

How do you simplify the radical expression, 24- sqrt(720 over 4
baherus [9]

24- sqrt(720/4) divide 720 by 4

24 - sqrt (180) now break down 180 to 9*4*5

24- sqrt(9) *sqrt(4) *sqrt (5)  so 9becomes 3, 4 becomes 2

24- 3*2*sqrt(5) multiply 3 and 2

24-6sqrt(5)
