It is common for financial institutions to request customers to contact them to check on recent transactions or update sensitive information. Those request-of-contact notifications can be sent from the bank by mail or e-mail. They usually provide a phone number that the account holder should dial so the customer can find out what is going on. During the call, the account holder should only confirm basic information but should not provide any personal details such as his or her account number or card number with PIN because that is likely what scammers would ask for. If that happens, the customer needs to call the bank to a phone number usually printed at the back of one of their cards to report the incident.
