Answer:

D: 6

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x mph be the rate of the faster jogger

Therefore (x-2) mph is the rate of the slower jogger

After 3 hours faster jogger will be 3x miles from the starting point

Whereas after the 3 hours slower jogger will be 3(x-2) miles from the starting point but in the opposite direction.

Since they are 30 miles apart 3x+3(x-2)=30

3x+3x-6=30

⇒ 3x+3x=30 +6

⇒ 6x=36

⇒ x=6

Therefore the rate of the faster jogger = 6 mph

kvv77 [185]

Answer: Independent event

Step-by-step explanation:

When two events are independent of each other, this means that the probability that one event will occurs does not in any way affects the probability of the occurrence of the other event.

For example, card is picked at random from a deck of cards, and after putting it back, thne another card is picked at random. The probability of picking the cards is not affected by each other since it is put back.

A flying carpet flies 2.4 miles with the wind in the same amount of time it flies 1.4 miles against the wind. The wind speed is
Ainat [17]

Answer:

15.2~mph

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the time flown by the flying carpet be t. Then, we have that (2.4)/t=(1.4)/t+2*4.

We multiply both sides of the equation by t to get 2.4=1.4+8t.

We subtract 1.4 from both sides to get 1=8t.

We divide both sides of the equation by t=1/8.

We know that the speed of the flying carpet in still wind is the average of the rates of the speed of the flying carpet with the wind and against the wind.

The speed with wind is (2.4)/(1/8)=19.2mph.

The speed against wind is (1.4)/(1/8)=11.2mph.

The speed in still wind is (19.2+11.2)/2=(30.4)/2=15.2.

Therefore, the answer is \boxed{15.2~mph} and we're done!
