Question: In Anthony’s speech “On Women's Right to Vote,” what evidence does she use to support her argument that state laws preventing women from voting are illegal?

Options:

A- the constitution that “secure[s] the blessings of liberty”

B- a state law that is “null and void,” or not valid

C- the question “Are women persons?”

D- a description of her voting as an “alleged crime”

Answer: The correct answer is option: A) The constitution that “secure[s] the blessings of liberty”

Explanation: Susan B. Anthony was arrested for casting an illegal vote in the presidential election of 1872. During this time, women did not have the right to vote. She was fined at $100 dollars but refused to pay and gave a very important speech about women's right to vote. She assured the public that she had not committed a crime, but she had simply exercised her citizen's rights. She also mentioned that the National Constitution had given these rights to all U.S citizens. She even quoted the preamble of the Federal Constitution, mentioning the following: "We, the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. -- It was we, the people; not we, the white male citizens; nor yet we, the male citizens; but we, the whole people, who formed the Union. They can achieve their idividual goals in spite of difficulties. The mother of the family manages to ,finally, get a house in a white neighbourhood , and the Youngers are emotionally strong to face that situation. They have fullfilled their dreams - identities- ; they are a united family ; they have been empowered , therefore they can face racism.
