Step-by-step explanation:

She wants to enlarge the picture to have an area of 242 in².

Suppose the width of the enlarged picture be "X".

then the length of the enlarged picture would be 2X.

The area of the enlarged picture would be (length times width).

2X * X = 242 in²

2X² = 242

x² = 242/2 = 121

x = 11 inches

So, width of the enlarged picture = 11 inches.

and, length of the enlarged picture = 22 inches.

When we enlarge the picture, its shape does not change, only the size changes and everything remains in same ratio. If the original picture has its length as twice as its width, then the enlarged picture would be in same proportion.

So it is quite reasonable that the length of enlarged picture would be as twice as its width. Hence the dimensions of enlarged picture are 11 in x 22 in.

A California distributor of sporting equipment expects to sell 10,000 cases of tennis balls during the coming year at a steady r
sleet_krkn [62]

Economic Order Quantity

The economic order quantity, that is, the order quantity that minimizes the inventory cost is:

300 cases of tennis balls

Data and Calculations:

Sales of tennis balls for the coming year = 10,000 units

Carrying (holding) costs per case = $10

Cost of placing orders with the manufacturer = $45 per order

Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) = square root of (2 * Annual Demand/Sales * Ordering cost)/Carrying cost per case

= square root of (2 * 10,000 * $45)/$10

= square root of 90,000

= 300 tennis balls

This implies that the distributor will place about 33 orders in the coming year. With each order, the quantity placed is 300 units. This is the economic order quantity that will minimize its inventory cost for the year.
