In this text by French philosopher Jacques Derrida, an extract from his book The Beast and the Sovereign, Vol. II, the character, Robinson Crusoe (the same character as in Defoe's novel), is showing his doubts and his terror about Divine Providence, that is, the care, and the control, of God (whom he fears) over all the creatures. Throughout this text, Robinson, a shipwreck survivor after all, is struggling to learn how to pray and has doubts about God's attributes, such as Providence.
