The heart in fish only has two chambers, but oxygenated and deoxygenated blood never mix. Why is the 3-chamber heart of amphibia

ns considered a better circulatory system even though oxygenated and deoxygenated blood do mix?
a. Because fish do not have lungs and thus do not need to have a second loop in the circulatory system
b. Because amphibians have cutaneous respiration, they need to be able to pump blood to the skin
c. The blood in amphibians contains more oxygen, thus it requires a stronger heart in order to pump it through the body
d. In fish, blood loses pressure as it goes from the gills to the tissues withous passing again through the heart
e. Amphibians are endotherms requiring high energy expenditure, faster heart rates and oxygen levels.

Answer:

The correct answer is option d.

Explanation:

In a fish, the heart comprises two chambers, a ventricle, and an atrium. The deoxygenated blood comes through the body, moves into the atrium and then into the ventricle, from where it is pushed towards the body through the gills.

The pumping of the blood via the heart takes place via the capillary beds of the gills and via the tissues’ capillary beds. When the blood come in the capillary beds of the gills it gets slow down. It moves gradually via its path to the tissues and requires skeletal muscular activity to help the blood to mediate towards the heart again. Thus, a fish is dependent upon the physical effort for blood to get circulated again to the heart.

The heart of an amphibian-like the frog exhibits three chambers, two atria and one ventricle. In the process of circulation, that is, in the ventricle, the oxygenated and the deoxygenated blood gets mixed prior to being impelled out of the heart. However, amphibians possess lower metabolisms and thus, they need less oxygen. The requirement of a lesser amount of oxygen puts less pressure on the heart to provide blood with high oxygen. Thus, a heart comprising three chambers is suitable for the requirements of amphibians who could absorb oxygen via their moist skin.

A mixture is what you get when you combine two substances in such a way that no chemical reaction occurs between the components.
stepladder [879]

A solution is a mixture where the individual components cannot be made out.

Sugar dissolves in water, which results in a mixture of sugar and water. When the sugar dissolves, it is invisible to the human eye, but still exists at a molecular level. This makes the mixture a solution, as you cannot separate the sugar from the water visibly. The answer will be D) A mixture of sugar and water.

Scientists interested in knowing the best way to restore an area after a temporary road was built through it completed a study c
Drupady [299]

Answer:

This study was focused on an Ecosystem level, as it involved soil properties and above-ground vegetation interacting with mentioned soil physic properties.

Explanation:

Ecological studies can be performed at different hierarchy levels:

- Organism: This is an individual physiologically independent from other individuals. At this level, it must be understood how an organism survives under certain changing physic and chemistry conditions, and how it behaves to reproduce, avoid predators, and find food.

- Population: Groups of individuals from the same species, with similar characteristics, capable of crossing, leaving offspring that live in the same habitat at the same time. At this level, it is interesting to know the size of the population required to leave fertile offspring that ensure the population will survive over time. It is also interesting to know genetic variability that allows evolutive adaptation to environmental changes.

- Community: Relationship or interaction between different species groups that live in the same habitat and at the same time. At this level, it is interesting to study inter-specific interactions that could cause changes in the populations´ size. These could be the cases of competition, predation, parasitism, mutualism, and etcetera.

- Ecosystem: Basic interaction unit between population and environment that turn in complex relations existing between living and non-living elements in a given area. In the example, interactions between recovering vegetation and soil properties, as non-living elements.
