The most emblematic highlands species is probably the Ethiopian wolf, which is now on the brink of extinction. Important plant species native to the Ethiopian Highlands include the Ethiopian rose, Africas only native rose, and the ensete, a tall, thick, rubbery plant that is a close relative of the banana.
