O Connor’s language during this story drives the reader to investigate it stylistically, since there are several words, phrases, sentences, and utterances, that are associated with some rhetorical terms, like figurative language, puns, creativity, rhetorical deviation, and wordplay. In this story, the use of figurative language is based on the comparison, the use of simile and personification makes the reader excited.

The three examples used in the story are :

"I'd smack his face," John Wesley said.

"Tennessee is just a hillbilly dumping ground," John Wesley said, "and Georgia is a lousy state too."

"My daddy said I was a different breed of dog from my brothers and sisters. "

Today, there is approximately 2,200 blue whales in the eastern North
Naya [18.7K]

The problem with this sentence is that there is no subject-verb agreement.

What is subject-verb agreement?

The subject-verb agreement implies the verb should agree with the subject on the number (singular vs plural). Here are some examples.

 • The girls are brave (both the subject and theverb are plural).
 • The girl is brave (both the subject and the verb are singular).

What is the problem in the sentence presented?

The sentence about whales does not show the subject-verb agreement. This is because in the section there is approximately 2,200 blue whales the author is using a singular verb is to refer to a plural subject 2,200 blue whales.

Note: This question is incomplete; here is the complete question:

What's wrong with this sentence: "Today there is approximately 2,200 blue whales in the eastern North Pacific and research indicates that the population hasn't changed significantly since 1993"

What is the meaning of status-quo and avant-garde
topjm [15]
Status-quo means the existing state of something. A common example used for this is like saying a rich person is happy with their status-quo. They are happy with how things are going.

Avant-garde means a couple of different things depending on if you use it as a noun, verb, adjective, etc. It basically refers to ideas or proposals that are extremely creative, innovative. A good way to think of this word is the expression "think out of the box." Avant-garde ideas are NOT common or plain.
