Public schools cannot promote religion, but they must allow students allow to practice their faith. school-sponsored prayer in public schools was banned by the supreme court in 1962. if it is a specific topic, like abortion, then no they cannot get in trouble because they are not forcing it or promoting it. simply teaching about it.
