The first thing you would do is switch the x and y (B).

For example, to find the inverse of y = 2x + 8:

1. Swap x and y
    x = 2y + 8

2. Solve for y (set the equation equal to it):
    x - 8 = 2y
    y = (x - 8) ÷ 2
    f^{-1}(x) = 1/2x - 4

S(x)= 22x-8 and f(x)= -5. What is s(x) x f(x)?
zloy xaker [14]
-110x+40
You need to use the distributive property for this problem
You multiply 22x times -5 (which is -110x) and -8 times -5 (which is 40) to get -110x+40

You bike for 7 miles and ran for 3 1/2 miles. What is the unit rate of miles biked to miles run?
ExtremeBDS [4]
I think you mean: what is the ratio of biking to running, if this is the case it is 2:1.

I hope this helps you.

What is the equation of the line that passes through the points (-2, -3) and (4, -5)
Jobisdone [24]

Answer:

x + 3y + 11 = 0  is the  required equation.

Step-by-step explanation:

Here the given points are A( -2,-3) and B(4,-5)

Now, slope of the equation = \frac{y_2 - y_1}{x_2 - x_1}  = \frac{-5 -(-3))}{4-(-2)}   = \frac{-2}{6}   =-\frac{1}{3}

Hence, the slope of the equation is m = (-1/3)

Now, by POINT SLOPE FORMULA:

The equation of a line with slope m and point (x0, y0) is given as

(y - y0) = m (x -x0)

So, here the equation of line with (4, -5) is

y - (-5) = -\frac{1}{3}  (x - 4)  \implies  3( y +5) = -x + 4

or, 3y + 15 + x-4 = 0

or, x + 3y + 11 = 0

⇒ x + 3y + 11 = 0 is the  required equation.

Let f(-1)=16 and f(5) = -8Write the equation of the line in slope intercept form that passes throughthese two points
sergeinik [125]
\begin{gathered} \Rightarrow x_1=-1,y_1=16,x_2=5,y_2=-8 \\ \text{The line of equation is,} \\ (y-y_1)=\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}(x-x_1) \\ y-16=\frac{-8-16}{5+1}(x+1) \\ y-16=\frac{-24}{6}(x+1) \\ y-16=-4(x+1) \\ y-16=-4x-4 \\ y=-4x+16-4 \\ y=-4x+12 \end{gathered}
