A."It was the justice of the earth goddess, and they were merely her messengers." AND C."He remembered his wife’s twin children, whom he had thrown away. What crime had they committed?"

In Option A the statement "they were merely her messengers" tells the reader that Obeirika sees the people who are carrying out this justice as pawns. People who are not doing their own thinking or decision making about what they feel is best or correct. In Option C. Obeirika thinks about the twin children who were thrown away. He is questioning whether or not it was the right thing to do even though it is traditionally what happens.
