When the outliers are removed, how does the mean change? dot plot with 1 on 18, 2 on 38, 1 on 40, 3 on 44, 1 on 46, 1 on 48

Ok so 18 is the only real outlier here and once removed calculate the mean and compare it to the original mean. It should be higher and closer to 44

Outliers is the value that lies outside, it means, either they are so great or so less, here, as outliers are greater, when it will be removed, your mean will get smaller
