The Senate is one of the two houses of the bicameral Congress of the United States (the legislative branch).
It consists of one hundred members, and each serves a six-year term. Unlike the House of Representative, whose allocation of seats is based on the population within the states (which may vary), the Senate always consists of two elected senators of each state. The U.S. has 50 states, therefore, there are 100 senators in this chamber.
