The urinary system consists of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra and urinary meatus. It is formed and begins to function before birth. When the bladder contains 250 mL of urine, the urge to urinate is felt.

The kidney, in the urinary system, has a secretory function (filtration of blood in the glomeruli) and excretory from the pyelon, origin of the ureter.

The ureters are an extension of the kidneys. Their role is to collect urine in the pelvis.

The bladder collects the urine that reaches it through the ureters. Its capacity is about 300 to 600 ml. Urine is evacuated from the urethra during urination.

The urethra is the canal that goes from the bladder to the urinary meatus serving the flow of urine.
