After Fidel Castro came to power in 1961, there were a number of attempts made by the CIA to overthrow him. It was because the CIA believed that Fidel Castro's regime would prove to be a hazard to the regional dominance of the United States and that he may also help Russia in its anti-American activities.

Later, many presidents of America tried to unite both the nations during Cold War.
