job?

Since we are basing this problem on hours, we have to look at how much of the job gets done by each person in 1 hour. If it takes Bob 5 hours to do the whole job, he can get 1/5 of it done in an hour; likewise, if it takes Bill 8 hours to do the whole job, he can get 1/8 of the job done in an hour. We are combining their efforts by addition and setting it equal to 1/x, x being the number of hours it takes them to do the job together. Since the number of hours is in the denominator for Bob and Bill, the number of hours has to also be in the denominator for the solution. \frac{1}{5}+\frac{1}{8}=\frac{1}{x}. Of course in order to add those we need a common denominator, which happens to be 40. Therefore, \frac{8}{40}+\frac{5}{40}=\frac{1}{x}, and \frac{13}{40}=\frac{1}{x}. Cross multiply to get 13x = 40. Divide by 13 to find that it takes them just over 3 hours to get the job done together. 3.07 hours to be exact.

Answer:

The 95% confidence interval for the standard deviation is (0.14, 0.54).

Step-by-step explanation:

The complete data and question is:

Sloth CW Ratios ; {1.5 , 1.09 , 0.98 , 1.42 , 1.49 , 1.25}

The 95% confidence interval for the standard deviation of this data is  < σ <   (two decimals - include the leading zero) .

Solution:

Compute the sample standard deviation as follows:

\bar x=\frac{1}{n}\sum x=\frac{1}{6}\times 7.73=1.2883\\\\s=\sqrt{\frac{1}{n-1}\sum (x-\bar x)^{2}}=\sqrt{\frac{1}{6-1}\times 0.2387}=0.2185

The (1 - <em>α</em>)% confidence interval for the variance is:

CI=\frac{(n-1)s^{2}}{\chi^{2}_{\alpha/2}}

Confidence level = 95%

⇒ α = 0.05

The degrees of freedom is,

df = n - 1 = 6 - 1 = 5

Compute the critical values of Chi-square:

\chi^{2}_{\alpha/2, (n-1)}=\chi^{2}_{0.025,5}=12.833\\\\\chi^{2}_{1-\alpha/2, (n-1)}=\chi^{2}_{0.975,5}=0.831

*Use a Chi-square table.

Compute the 95% confidence interval for the variance as follows:

CI=\frac{(n-1)s^{2}}{\chi^{2}_{\alpha/2}}

     =\frac{5\times (0.2185)^{2}}{12.833}

Thus, the 95% confidence interval for the standard deviation is (0.14, 0.54).

How to find the area of a regular polygon
Taya2010 [7]
You can always find the area from breaking it up into smaller shapes. For example, a hexagon is basically 2 trapezoids.
Some formulas for different shapes.
Trapezoid: <span>height × (base1 + base2) / 2
Rectangle: length x width
Parallelogram: height x base
Triangle height x base / 2</span>

Answer:

The total points by Washington High School =  162 points

The total points by  Johnson High School   =  159 points

The total points by  Roosevelt High School =  108 points

The total points by  Lewis High School =  196 points

Washington High School  has WON the meet.

Johnson High School came second.

The difference in the points= 2 points

Step-by-step explanation:

Points awarded for first place = 10 points

Points awarded for second place = 8 points

Points awarded for third place = 7 points

About Washington High School

10 first places  = 10 x ( 10) = 100 points

6 second places  = 6 x ( 8) = 48 points

2 first places  = 2 x ( 7) = 14 points

So, the total points by  Washington High School  = Sum of all points

=  100 + 48 + 14   =  162 points     .............. (1)

About Johnson High School

8 first places  = 8 x ( 10) = 80 points

9 second places  = 9 x ( 8) = 72 points

1 first places  = 1 x ( 7) = 7 points

So, the total points by  Johnson High School  = Sum of all points

=  80 + 72 + 7   =  159 points    .............. (2)

About Roosevelt High School

4 first places  = 4 x ( 10) = 40 points

5 second places  = 5 x ( 8) = 40 points

4 first places  = 4 x ( 7) = 28 points

So, the total points by  Roosevelt High School  = Sum of all points

=  40 + 40 + 28   =  108 points  .............. (3)

About Lewis High School

3 first places  = 3 x ( 10) = 30 points

3 second places  = 3 x ( 8) = 24 points

6 first places  = 6 x ( 7) = 42 points

So, the total points by  Lewis High School  = Sum of all points

=  30 + 42 + 24   =  96 points      .............. (4)

Now, comparing all four equation, we get that:

Washington High School  has WON the meet.

Johnson High School came second.

The difference in the points  = 162 - 159 = 2 points
